Pastor Curt Detar
Curt joined the team here at WOL in 2002, when he retired from teaching at Hempfield Area School District. He taught Technology Education at Wendover Middle School . He started attending WOL in 1986 around 6 months after the ministry was started. He was an Elder here since around 1988. He and his wife Paula are proud of their sons ; Brett the oldest is a musician/song writer/singer/etc. and their youngest son Jason is the CEO and owner of a web hosting business, and some other computer related endeavors. Both of their lovely wives are doing photography; Shae fashion photography, and Jenn does weddings at Jennifer Detar Photography.

Top ten random facts you should know about Curt:
- I grew up as a Catholic, but was saved on a Thursday night on Apr 17, 1975 at Christian Life Church in Trafford; and got filled with the Spirit 3 days later on Sunday morning.
- I met my lovely wife Paula ( a nurse ) at a dance hall. I used to go dancing 6 nights a week. I still love to dance but don’t get to do it very much these days except at Weddings.
- I am a former Marine, and served in Vietnam. I arrived in Chu Lai in July of 1966, and stayed there and in Da Nang for a total of 13 months and 9 days.
- I grew up in Rillton, Pa. and graduated from Norwin High School in 1962.
- We grew up as a poor family, having 5 sisters and 4 brothers. In my early childhood we had to use an outhouse and drank water that we carried up from a spring in a field down over the hill. The hand pump we had in our yard had run dry.
- I worked on a garbage truck the first winter of college and each summer thereafter as a Carpenter. Throughout my teaching career I continued to do carpentry in the summers and some evenings. I also owned ‘Detar’s Crafts’ for a little over a year, but had to give it up because it was robbing church time.
- I have designed and built both of my own houses, and I have partially designed and was the builder of my son Jason’s house.
- I plan on writing a book or books in the future.
- Paula and I have a desire to see people happily married in a good Christian environment.
