Wedding Guidelines
A blessed and happy welcome to all potential Brides and Grooms
We here at Word of Life Ministries take marriage very seriously. We believe that a marriage should last a lifetime. In our day and age, marriage has become like most things – if you don’t like it, throw it away. Sadly enough, this type of attitude has even found its way into the ranks of the Church. Divorce has become an alarming epidemic in the world and in the Church. “You are the salt of the earth,” at least that is what Jesus said in Matthew 5:13. He went on to say, “. . . but if the salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltiness be restored?” In other words, if we as Christians cannot point the way to righteousness, then how will the world ever know of the wonderful Christ we serve? Secondly, what good are we if we lose our effectiveness? Think of it! Here we are, the Church, the redeemed, those who have the truth, yet we are bound by the same problems as the world (when I refer to this world, I refer to those who know not Christ). These things ought not to be!
Therefore, our desire is to see you and your spouse flowing in as much harmony as possible. Our desire is not to see how much of your time we can consume: in fact, quite the contrary – we want to be spending less time in marriage counseling and patching broken homes. This is why we have set down a few guidelines that you will need to comply with if you desire a Word of Life pastor to perform the ceremony.
WEDDINGS
GUIDELINES CONCERNING YOUR WEDDING AND WEDDING REHEARSAL
- Contact Pastor Curt to set up an appointment and to start the pre-marital process at Word of Life.
- Both the bride and groom must be born-again Christians and one must be a member of Word of Life Ministries.
- Both bride and groom must submit to premarital counseling as recommend by the pastor. Normally there will be six of these counseling sessions and more only if needed.
- There will be a $35.00 fee (per couple) to have a T.A.P. (Temperament Analysis Profile) done for the bride and groom. This is required as part of your pre-marital counseling. Once the results of the profile are completed, please call the office to set up an appointment with Pastor Henry to go over these results.
- Pastor Curt will explain the pre-marital process and assign your pre-marital counselors.
- Be sure to check both the pastor’s and the church’s schedule. Then schedule your rehearsal time and day – in addition to reserving the Sanctuary for the day of your wedding. If you are planning to use Word of Life’s facilities for the wedding reception or the rehearsal dinner, be sure to notify the office well in advance.
- No alcoholic beverages may be served at the wedding reception or the rehearsal dinner – regardless of whether these events are held in the church building or elsewhere.
- No secular music or secular dancing may be used if the reception is being held in the Word of Life building. We do not want to be a stumbling block to anyone.
- We ask that you would refrain from the tradition of throwing of the bouquet and garter.
- Secure your music people (both vocals and instrumental) well in advance. We recommend that you show your appreciation to them with a love gift.
- Contact the sound technician and the wedding coordinator here at the office (724-837-8790). Our recommendation is that you extend your appreciation to them with a love gift of $100.00 each for their help at the wedding ceremony. A considerable time commitment is required from them (both before and after the ceremony). If the sound technician handles the reception also, an additional $100.00 is suggested.
GUIDELINES FOR USE OF THE BUILDING
- We ask that you treat the building with respect. Please do not tape decorations to the wall or doors and do not use thumb tacks. We appreciate your consideration in this matter.
- The formal Dining Hall will accommodate approximately 400 seated guests and may be rented for your reception. We ask that you clear all decorations with the office as to where you would be permitted to mount them.
